NEW EAST MIDLANDS AIRPORT BASE FOR GO The news that top low cost airline Go has announced East Midlands Airport as its latest base has been welcomed by the Airport's Chairman, Councillor Brian Harrison.Go - which was recently voted Best Low Cost Airline 2001 by readers of two national publications - unveiled plans for its new operation from EMA at a launch this morning. The announcement is one of the most significant in the Airport's 36-year history and further enhances EMA's role as a key player in the local economy. The move follows months of detailed negotiations between the Airport and Go. Welcoming the announcement, Councillor Harrison commented: "We are delighted with today's news which is of huge significance to business and leisure travellers across the region and beyond. "This is a major coup for East Midlands Airport at a time when the travel industry as a whole is experiencing one of its most challenging times. "In the past, thousands of passengers seeking low-cost services have been forced to drive past EMA's doors to reach other airports which are often located in the congested south-east. "We have responded to customer demand and have succeeded in attracting one of the country's most ambitious low cost airlines. "We are sure that the benefit of these new plans will be twofold - opening up new markets to travellers and offering more choice to our existing customers." |
